This is The Start of My Mecha Journey

[ACT 1]

I have always wanted to try a mechanical keyboard. They have some kind of sleek appeal to them. Something to flex, and they are fun to press. When I started to look for a good mechanical keyboard that is light I rediscovered the world of ergonomic keyboards. Or it's the other way around?!
Anyway, after some research (read a quick YouTube search) I found out about the custom Corne Choc keyboards. After a few more research, thought I could save money if I could build it myself and ordered a smart Iron (probably not a smart decision when saving money). Note that I DON'T HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE USING IRON. Unfortunately or fortunately, they were out of stock and refunded my hard-earned money.
Finally, I ordered a pre-built Corne – Enclose Case (Choc version) Stainless Steel, Black from the Ergomech store. It comes from Vietnam, and depending on your courier service, may take 2-3 weeks. After a lot of waiting, I got the board today to realize that I need switches, keycaps, and probably a USB-C cable and learn from scratch how to install and use it.
I skipped the part where I posted on Reddit about not getting a response later to find out the store's general email line was not working. So, the admin asked me to send an email to them. They were helpful and provided me with the Canada Post tracking ID which only worked when it was inside Canada.
Did I tell you that I have almost zero knowledge of these custom keyboards? Some Googling, Redditing, and YouTubing helped me to order 5 sets of Sunset Tactile switches and plain keycaps. I only needed 42.
I'm waiting for those to come tomorrow. Hopefully, I have a UCB-C to USB-A cable from my phone charger that will work for now.
A reason for me writing these down is I'm getting lost in the steps I should follow to make this work. So my todo list is:
- Get the switches and keycaps (Already ordered)
- Follow this tutorial to install ZMK on the keyboard.
- Or follow this to see if I need to get the basics done before I can venture into ZMK.
- This website will come in handy in the future when I'm buying parts.
